February 5, Denver Jewish Day School’s struggling basketball team trickles into the Denver Waldorf gym. Waldorf fans are screaming. After all, they are ranked second in the state. The Tigers, a measly  thirtieth.  The Waldorf Spartans are led by dominating center, Henry Lotteridge and crafty point guard, son of the coach, Cayden Quinn. The Tiger’s had their work cut out to them to leave the gym with a victory.  That night, the Tiger’s took the bench with a limited roster, multiple key players were not able to make the game. As a whistle sounded, the first quarter began.  A long and hard fought game ensued. Throughout the game the entire Tiger’s team struggled to box out and get rebounds. Waldorf continued to score second chance points on almost every possession. Very quickly, Tiger’s defenders picked up many fouls. This trend continued throughout the game, most of the team picked up more than three fouls, and Micheal Rafailov fouled out. this forced coaching prodigy Matan Halzel to get creative on defense with a limited roster.  Although the Tigers went into halftime only down two, the Spartans dominated them in the third going up a confident seven into the fourth quarter. All was bleak on the Tiger’s bench. The Waldorf fans were roaring. The Tigers went back onto the court determined to win. They outscored the Spartans 12-2 in the fourth quarter. Relentless defense, smart plays, and smooth offense led the tigers to a satisfying victory.
